I, interviewed a woman that does HRT. She stated that she takes the pills. She stated that at first wasn't going to do it because she didn't want to take the medication for the rest of her life. She also stated that people around her stated that if she started doing HRT that she would start growing hair everywhere like a wolf, her voice would get deeper, and her sex drive would be know longer. She stated what made her go to the doctor and talk with her agin was she was having hot flashes all the time and it was getting unbearable. The doctor told her if she would do the HRT that would help with the hot flashes. The doctor also told her that if she take the pills that it will help with the prevention of osteoporosis. She stated that she has been taking the medication for 9 months and she can tell the different with the hot flashes they are mild now. She also stated that all the things that her friends told her was so far not true. She stated that she feel great and that was probably the best decision that she has made in a long time.

  1. Your friends desire not to take medication for the rest of her life is understandable. I do not like the idea of taking pills everyday long term but it seems like this was defiantly the best option for this woman. Patients have to discuss all of the options with their physician and weigh the benefits against the risk to make the best decision form them. The same treatment is not right for every woman.

  2. According to the textbook, many women's information regarding Menopause comes from their peers. It's amazing that as females, we sometimes avoid going to more direct sources of information such as our regular Doctor. Sometimes the benefits outweigh the "risks". While the decision to begin an HRT regimen is ultimately an individual decision, it's important that accurate information is acquired prior to making the final choice.
